David Joseph Hendricks

June 28, 1951 — January 12, 2023

David Joseph Hendricks, 71, of Allentown, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at his residence. He was the husband of Barbara (Zwarycz) Hendricks. David was born in Bethlehem on June 28, 1951 to the late Henry Milton, Sr. and Frances Elinora (Carl) Hendricks. He worked as an IT Consultant for Computer Aid, Inc. in Allentown for many years until retiring in 2016. David was a member of East Hills Moravian Church, Bethlehem. Dave was a demonstratively loving husband and father; truly, “I love you” was almost a mantra to Dave. Dave was a good friend to many people all over the globe and his humor was well-known to those who knew him. His varied interests were the subject of many Facebook posts. Whether it was making, throwing, collecting or teaching youngsters about boomerangs, smoking meats and cheese, seeking out lighthouses, chasing down steam locomotives, fishing, traveling or displaying his collection of nativities, his enthusiasm was evident in all he did.

With a solid foundation in his Christian faith, Dave found many ways to live out his faith. He loved music, playing in brass bands for church and singing in the choir or as a soloist for special music. He participated in Habitat for Humanity builds and Gulf Coast rebuilding, following Hurricane Katrina, as part of church mission teams. Dave has been a volunteer for Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering almost since its inception in 2009 as a volunteer driver, meal host and kitchen staff. He continued to serve in whatever manner he was able until his death.

His family and friends will miss Dave's wit, humor, and enthusiasm, but most of all, we will miss his smile, his warmth and his hugs.
