Evelyn Evans

Evelyn Gallagher Evans, 89, of Bethlehem Township passed away at home on September 25, 2013.

Born: Evelyn was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on February 25, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Marguerite O'Donnell Gallagher.

Personal: Evelyn graduated from E.L. Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre in 1942. She retired from Lehigh University after more than 25 years, first as the personal secretary to Pulitzer Prize-winning history professor Lawrence Henry Gipson and subsequently as the secretary of Lehigh's music department.

Memberships: She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She enjoyed music concerts by her grandchildren and various sports activities, especially going to football games at Lehigh University and following football at the University of Notre Dame.

Survivors : Daughters - Rosemary Evans Veresink and her husband Theodore and Eileen Evans Colahan and her husband Paul with whom she resided, 5 Grandchildren - Trevor Colahan and wife Diana, Sandy Veresink and husband Robert Kovacs, Ryan Colahan, Patty Veresink, Michelle Veresink Richmond and husband Derek, one great-grandson - Kian Kovacs; her brother, Daniel Gallagher of Wilkes-Barre, and many nieces and nephews , including a very special niece Margie Lenahan Barket. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Evans, who passed away in 1983 as well as her two sisters, Marguerite Fladd and Kathleen Lenahan.

Services: A visitation will be held at The Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 on Sunday, September 29, 2013 from 5-7 PM. Another visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 9-9:45 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18020 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 AM. Burial will be held at 1:30 PM at St. Mary's Cemetery in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Memorials may be sent to her favorite charity, St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
