Jean L. Gross

Jean L. ?Chipper? Gross, 94 years and 10 months, of Bethlehem, died December 11, 2010. Born February 8, 1916, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the only child of the late Heathcote W. and Louise Jacobson Lawson. Jean married her Liberty High School sweetheart in 1934, Harry W. Gross, and they were married until his death in 1976. Jean was a devoted wife and mother, an excellent seamstress, a Girl Scout leader and a longtime member of the Orders of Eastern Star, Amaranth and White Shrine. Jean was a member of the Great Valley Girl Scout Council Inc. where she led troops from Daisy to Senior Girl Scout, had been a service unit director and continued to work at Camp Helena, Saucon Valley, where she directed day camp until her late 80s. In 2001 the Great Valley Council awarded her a 70-year membership pin. Her church home was Edgeboro Moravian Church. Jean is survived by her daughter, Susan L. wife of Thomas Gratton, of Fort Wayne, IN, and sons Richard H. Gross and wife Linda, of Hagerstown, MD, and Stuart Gross of Louisville, KY. She was predeceased by her daughter Margaret Leidig. Her grandchildren are Pam Lyman of Harrisburg, David Leidig of Fountain Hill, Benjamin Gross of Lansdale, Erik Gross of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Laura Dugan of Hagerstown, MD, Stuart Gross and Heath Gross of Louisville, KY, Matthew Gratton and Sarah Ross of Fort Wayne, IN. She has 14 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. A chapel service will be held 2 p.m. on Wed., December 15, Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad Street, Bethlehem. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eastern Star 3544 N.
