Al J Calvo

August 1, 1952 — June 30, 2011

Mr. Al J. Calvo, 58 of Bethlehem, PA died unexpectedly from natural causes on June 30th in Bethlehem, PA while at work.

Al was born in Bethlehem and is the son of Alphonse J. and Ann M. Baca Calvo of Bethlehem.

Working for the City of Bethlehem Public Works Department for the past 18 years he was a Construction Inspector at the time of his death.

He is a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School and East Stroudsburg University graduating with a BS in English.

Al loved all aspects of baseball. He enjoyed playing in high school and was a pitcher for his college team in addition to being an excellent pitcher for the Blue Mountain League and the Bethlehem Men's Senior Baseball League.

He coached young athletes in several baseball divisions including Bethlehem Catholic High School, Banko's, Jeffs, Lehigh West Bethlehem and the Babe Ruth League.

He was an avid reader of history and biographies.

Surviving with his parents are his sons: A.J. Calvo, Jr. of Newport, RI, Nicholas J. Calvo of Bethlehem and his daughter Michelle Ann Marshank and her husband Gabriel of London, England, and his beautiful grandchildren Edith Blake Marshank and Anthony Nicholas Calvo.

He is also survived by his sisters: Karen wife of H. Patrick Sweeney of Lansdale, Pa., Lynne M. Calvo of Bethlehem and his brother Thomas J. of Bethlehem.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday July 7th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ursula's Catholic Church 1300 Broadway Fountain Hill, PA

Visitation will be on Wednesday 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Connell Funeral Home 245 East Broad Street Bethlehem, Pa and also on Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in the Church.

Memorials may be made to St. Ursula's Church or to Bethlehem Catholic High School Athletic Programs.
