Albert J. Bauer, Sr.

November 9, 1922 — December 13, 2012

Albert Joseph Bauer, Sr., 90, of Bethlehem died on December 13, 2012 at Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Fountain Hill. He was born in Bayonne, N.J. on November 9, 1922; the son of the late John and Mary (Witzak) Bauer. Albert is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Juliana (Nalesnik) Bauer of Bethlehem.

Albert was a decorated war hero, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII as a Staff Sergeant assigned to the 13th Air Force 424th Bombardment Squadron 307th Bombardment Group in the Pacific Theater. He flew in B-24's as a gunner and radio man in 37 missions over enemy territory, including several record-setting long distance raids. Albert was self employed as owner-operator of AAROW Oil; a New Jersey based recycled oil dealership for over thirty years. Prior to entering the military, Albert assisted in construction of PT Boats for the U.S. Navy at Elco Naval Division in Bayonne.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Juliana; children- Albert J. Bauer, Jr. and wife, Camille of Bethlehem; Anne Morgan and husband, Ira Morgan of San Marcos, Ca.; Susan Morgan of Davenport, Fl.; and Marybeth McAlister of Hightstown, N.J.; grandchildren - Lisa Kemp and husband Matthew Kemp of Bethlehem; Michael Bauer and wife, Kelly of Ann Arbor, Mi.; Jeffrey Bauer and wife, Danielle of Jersey City, N.J.; David Elpin of Escondido, Ca.; Brian Morgan of Davenport, Fl.; Jennifer Hamm, wife of Brian Hamm of Ammon, Idaho; Kaitlyn McAlister of Philadelphia; and Megan McAlister of St. Thomas, V.I.; great-grandchildren - Camille and Ethan Kemp and Christian and Ethan Hamm and numerous nephews and nieces. Albert was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret and his brothers, John, Charles and Andrew.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Albert enjoyed boating, bowling and was an avid hunter.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 2-5 PM at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem PA 18018 with a service to follow at 5 PM. Interment will be held 11 AM on Friday at Washington Crossing National Cemetery 830 Highland Rd, Newtown, PA 18940. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. 617 Main St # A Hellertown, PA 18055.
