Alex Hasenecz

Alex Hasenecz, 92, of Bethlehem, died Sunday, April 10, 2016, at St. Lukes Hospice House, Bethlehem. Born July 26, 1923, in Bethlehem, he was the son of Mary (Munda) and George Hasenecz. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth (Bodnar) Hasenecz, to whom he was married for 63 years.

Alex was the owner of the former Kemos Tavern, Bethlehem, for 28 years. Before that, he worked at Bethlehem Steel as a crane operator. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific during WWII. Alex was active with the Hellertown American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Seabees reunions. He also dedicated much of his time to the Lions Club and was a two-time president for the Lions Club in Bethlehem Township.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; sons, Sergei Peter Hasenecz of Los Angeles and Rev. Fr. Timothy Alex Hasenecz of Bethlehem; daughters, Elizabeth Susan, wife of William Nielsen of Bethlehem, and Nadine Mary Hasenecz, wife of Scott Steinberg of Bethlehem; brother, Andrew Hasenecz of Riegelsville; sister, Katherine Bilsak of Bethlehem; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley Nielsen, Elias Sergei Hasenecz and Dashiell Timothy Hasenecz. Alex was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 1023 5th St., Catasauqua, Pa., 18032, from 9-10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery, Hellertown, Pa. Arrangements by Connell Funeral Home Inc.

Memorial contributions may be made in Alexs name to Holy Trinity Orthodox Church or to Bethlehem Township Lions Club, 3440 Harvard Place, Bethlehem, PA, 18020.
