Aloysius F. Ortwein

February 8, 1927 — November 13, 2015

Aloysius F. “Sonny” Ortwein, 88, of Bethlehem Twp., died peacefully at home on Nov. 13, 2015. He was married to the love of his life, the late Helen (Melin) for 56 years. He was born in Bethlehem, son of the late John and Thekla (Graf) Ortwein. He worked in the Structural Mills of the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 35 years before retiring in 1981. While in the U.S. Navy, he served in the Pacific during WWII. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Bethlehem, and a life-time member of the Jeffs Club, North End Wanderers, and the Washington Assn. He was also an avid golfer and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

He will be lovingly remembered by his son, David of Bethlehem Twp.; daughters, Nancy Christensen and husband Kenny of Bethlehem, Barbara Butcher and husband Johnny of Millerton; grandchildren, Shawn, Laura, and Kelly. The most important thing in his life was family and he was also predeceased by 12 siblings.

Now he is at peace and together forever with his true love, whom he dearly missed for the last 12 years. He was smitten at age 16 when he first saw her skating and asked, “Could I have this skate?” He knew she was the one when she responded, “If I give you this skate, what will I use?”

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at OLPH Church, 3219 Santee Rd., Bethlehem, 18020. An 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow. Burial with military honors will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
