Andrew E. "Doc" Warjas, 88, of Bethlehem Township, PA died on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Gracedale in Nazareth, PA.
Born April 12, 1922 in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Rose and Anton Warjas. He was married to Elizabeth R. Casciano Warjas with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage on May 15, 2010.
Andrew proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a signalman during WWII. He was awarded several medals for his service time. He worked for the Bethlehem Steel as a weld man. Andrew sold insurance for William Penn and sold storm windows for Kusco Steel. He also worked as a house painter for several years. Starting in 1962 he worked for Northampton County as a bridge supervisor and then was appointed as head of voting machine maintenance until retirement.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miller Heights, the Independent Citizens Club of Bethlehem Township and the Democratic Club of Bethlehem Township. He also coached little league at Freemansburg for six years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Elizabeth Warjas, son, Daniel Warjas husband of Yana Charova, daughter, Susan wife of Jay Henn and sister, Elsie Kittek. He will also be remembered by three grandchildren; Andrea Hart, Rachel Anthony and Jessica Warjas and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Warjas.
SERVICES
A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 10-11 AM followed by a service at 11 Am in the funeral home. Burial will be at Union Cemetery of Hellertown, in Hellertown, PA.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Andrew's name to the charity of one's choice or Sacred Heart Catholic Church 1817 First St. Bethlehem, PA 18020.
