Andrew J. Vetrosky

May 26, 1930 — October 27, 2012

Andrew J. Vetrosky, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 27, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospice House with his family by his side. Born on May 26, 1930 in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Andrew and Suzanna (Bandzura) Vetrosky. Andy was the beloved husband of Gale T. (Derkits) Vetrosky. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Sept. 29.

Andy proudly served his country in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, 62nd Engineer Construction Battalion, during the Korean War.

He retired from the Bethlehem Steel Corporation where he worked in the Basic Oxygen Furnace Division for 43 years. He was a member of the Local Steelworkers 2598. Andy enjoyed sports and played baseball with the Bethlehem Steel Nailers, golfed with the Bethlehem Steel Duffers and bowled with both the Catholic and National Sokols. He was a lifetime member of the Catholic Sokols. Andy especially enjoyed spending quality time with his grandsons. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Andy will be lovingly missed by his wife, Gale, daughter, Monica Thompson of Wescosville; two grandsons, Joshua Thompson of Washington, D.C. and Jacob Thompson of Wescosville who were his pride and joy and his sister, Mary Engle of Allentown. He was preceded in death by his son, A.J. Vetrosky, sisters, Anna Bujcs, Helen Galassi, Pauline Capkovic, Joan Thomas and his brother, James Vetrosky.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 from 7-9 PM at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018 and again on Saturday from 9:00-10:15 AM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 1817 1st Street Bethlehem, PA 18020 at 11 AM. Interment will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 617 A. Main Street Hellertown, PA 18055 and/or American Heart Association 212 E. Broad Street Bethlehem, PA 18018.
