Ann Kushinka

Ann Kushinka, 91, of Bethlehem, died on Wednesday, September 26, 2012. She was born one of six children to the late Frank and Anna (Penyak) Swadeba. Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles Kushinka, Jr.

Ann is survived by her daughters, Sharonann Kushinka, wife of Michael Underhill of San Francisco, CA and Charlene Fisher, wife of Ronald of Hebron, MD; three grandchildren, Juliana, Chad and Ryan; great granddaughter, Lauren; and sisters, Mary Androscizsko and Margaret Filarsky. She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank, Joseph and Andrew.

Ann grew up near Scranton PA and moved to Bethlehem after her marriage. She was a lifelong member of the Byzantine Catholic church, observing its rich traditions and preserving Slavic culture. There was never a Christmas without Ann's kiffles or an Easter without her beautifully decorated paska bread. Year around her family was treated to halupki, perogi, and her famous potato salad. Ann helped support her family by working for many years as a seamstress in the garment industry. She prided herself on her immaculate housekeeping, which she maintained up until March of this year when age finally caught up with her.

Ann spent the last five months at Country Meadows nursing center. The family wishes to thank the kind and capable staff there, the angels of Care Alternatives hospice, and the band of neighbors on Westwood drive who looked in on her and enabled her to maintain her cherished independence for as long as possible.

A visitation will be held on Monday Oct. 1st from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem with Panachida at 10:15 a.m. An 11 a.m. Office of Christian Burial will follow at Ss Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 1140 Johnston Dr., Bethlehem. Interment will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery.
