Anna Y. Maslany

Anna Yarema Maslany, 86, of Bethlehem, died after a lengthy illness on August 24, 2014. Anna was born on January 18, 1928 in Allentown to the late Thomas and Annie (Hanas) Yarema, both of Ukraine. She attended Allentown High School. She married Joseph Maslany on November 15, 1947 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Allentown. She was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church. Anna enjoyed many crafts and was known as an accomplished seamstress. She won several ribbons for her sewing at The Allentown Fair and sewed wedding gowns for both of her daughters. Her avocation became her vocation: she worked at sewing factories, Levine's Fabrics, and sewed the samples for the designer Stephen Burrows. In her leisure Anna enjoyed bingo and was a devoted fan of Penn State Football.

She is survived by her loving family; a son, Thomas Maslany and his wife, Candace of Perkiomenville; a daughter, JoAnne Westerhaus and her husband, Mark of State College; a daughter, Tammy Chamberlin and her fianc Harry Griffith, Jr. of Bethlehem and Leigh Price of Bethlehem, her honorary daughter. In addition, Anna is survived by four grandchildren, Jeffrey Maslany, Kathy Buehler, Kendra Westerhaus Santee and Briton Westerhaus; and two great-grandchildren, Ricky and Miranda Buehler. Preceding her in death were her beloved husband Joseph and two brothers, Stephen and Tarras Yarema.

Arrangements have been entrusted to The Connell Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church, 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18018 with a Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church and/or Holy Family Manor 1200 Spring St. Bethlehem, PA 18018.
