Anne Peters Mcgeady

Anne P. McGeady, 91, died Wednesday January 30, 2013, at Moravian Village. Her husband of 62 years, Leon J. McGeady, died in 2011. Anne was a lifelong resident of Bethlehem and a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School and the College of New Rochelle. Following completion of her Ph.D. degree in Bacteriology at Lehigh University in 1950, one of the first women to earn that degree at Lehigh, she was an Associate Professor of Microbiology and Chemistry at Moravian College. She left that position to raise a family and participate in civic activities in Bethlehem. She held many leadership positions including President of the Bethlehem chapter of the AAUW, Coordinator of the Know Your Neighbor Panel, a group which spoke against discrimination, Bicentennial Coordinator for City of Bethlehem, and Executive Director of the Sun Inn Preservation Association. Anne served as a member of numerous Boards of Directors including Lehigh Valley Blue Cross, Northampton Area Community College, Bethlehem Area Chamber of Commerce, AAA of the Lehigh Valley, and she was a member of the first organizing committee for Musikfest. She was awarded the Outstanding Woman of the Year Award by the Bethlehem Jaycees and the Martha Washington Award by the Sun Inn. Her survivors include six children, Tom McGeady, Mary Lou Cutler, Patricia Geneczko, Lee McGeady, Anne Drachbar, David McGeady , and eighteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 in St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bethlehem, followed by inurnment in Holy Saviour Cemetery. Friends may call from 8:30am - 10:30am Saturday in the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Sun Inn Preservation Association at 556 Main St, Bethlehem, PA 18018.
