Anthony S. Zawadzki, 91, of Bethlehem, PA
died on Friday, September 22, 2006 at St.Lukes Hospital in Bethlehem, PA
Born May 30, 1915 in Bethlehem, to the late John and Agnes Dzielak Zawadski
Devoted husband to Helen A. Dobyan Zawadzki with whom he celebrated 62 years of marrage prior to her death in April of this year.
A proud and wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Anthony was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Corp. as a Fitter for 34 years befor retiring in 1981. He also enjoyed carpentery, having built several homes throughout the Lehigh Valley. Anthony was a Naval War Hero having served his country in the US Navy during WW II as part of the Mine Disposal Unit. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, having received both a Letter of Commendation from the Secretary of the Navy Knox and the Navy Medal of Commendation, for rescuing a ship that was trapped by a submerged mine within a shipping channel. His memberships include Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Miller Heights, the Holy Name Society, MORA Club of Bethlehem, Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Fullerton Post, US Naval Institute and the US Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal Association. Although, with all his accomplishments, both civically and within the service he was an extremely modest and humble man.
SURVIVORS He will be lovingly remembered by his Son-Anthony M. and wife Joan of Bethlehem, Daughter-Ann Marie Bodor and husband Joseph of Bethlehem, Sisters- Betty Kropinicki of Bethlehem and Sister M. Bronisia O.S.B. of Colonia, NJ, Granddaughters-Jennifer Zawadzki and Stephen Marks of Bethlehem and Jane Schantz and husband Brian of Bethlehem, and two Great - Grandchildren- Branwen Rose and Anthony Stephen.
In addition to his wife Helen, he was preceded in Death by: Brothers-Charles and Andrew Zawadski and Sisters-Steffi Warminski and Helen Gotzon.
SERVICES A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday September 27, 2006 at 9:15 AM from the Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Miller Heights. Friends may call on Tuesday September 26, 2006 from 7-9PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, in Bethlehem.
