Anthony V. Ursic

Anthony "Tony" V. Ursic, 85, of Langhorne, PA, died on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at his Residence in Langhorne, PA with his family by his side. Tony was born July 21, 1923 in Bethlehem, PA, son of the late John and Elizabeth Kochne Ursic. He attended Bethlehem Township schools and graduated Liberty High School class of 1941.

Tony played piano in various bands in the Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania Area. He served as organist and choir director at the Sacred Heart church in Miller Heights, PA.

He attended Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA, part time while working at the Bethlehem Steel Company electrical repair shop.

In 1942 he enlisted in the Navy V-12 program at Muhlenberg and was transferred to the Naval ROTC training at Harvard University. He was commissioned in 1944 and served as gunnery officer on the light cruiser USS Birmingham CL-62 in the Pacific Theatre.

After military service, he attended Lehigh University graduating in the Industrial Engineering class of 1948. He worked in the general Lehigh Valley Area in manufacturing engineering at Western Electric Co. in Allentown, PA and Ingersoll Rand Co. in Phillipsburg, NJ.

In 1949, Tony married Doris M. Begala Ursic, graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing class of 1945. Together they raised three children; Thomas, a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, Beverly, a graduate of University of Delaware, and Catharine, a graduate of Lehigh University.

In 1955, Tony was employed as an industrial engineer at A.M.Gatti Inc, a specialty manufacturing company in Hamilton Township, NJ. In a short time, he advanced to General Manager of all manufacturing and administrative operations. He remained involved at A.M. Gatti Inc. as CEO until retirement in 2001.

In 2002, after living in the Princeton, NJ area for 37 years, Tony and Doris moved to their current residence, a retirement community, The Villas at Shady Brook in Langhorne, PA.

Tony will be lovingly remembered by his wife Doris, son Thomas A. Ursic and wife Nancy of Newtown, PA, two daughters, Beverly J. Ursic and fiance Robert E. Young, Jr. of Bear, DE, and Catharine A. Obert-Thorn and husband Mark A. of North Wales, PA, six grandchildren, Bryan, Michael, Jennifer, Kevin and Kyle Ursic and Caitlin Obert-Thorn.

He was predeceased by all of his siblings, Josephine, Mary, John, Frank, Henry and Albert.

Visitation will be at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA18018, on Friday, July 10, 2009 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1817 First Street, Bethlehem, PA on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 12:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Holy Savior Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the American Lung Association.
