Antonio Lopes

March 9, 1921 — January 26, 2015

Antonio “Tony” Lopes, 93, of Northampton, formerly of Bethlehem, departed into Gods Kingdom on Monday January 26th. Born in Fall River, MA on March 9, 1921 he was the son of the late Maria (Simoes) and Antonio Lopes de Lemos. He was married to the late Mary (Almeida) Lopes and later married Mary (Julio) Lopes with whom he celebrated 38 years of marriage.

Tony worked for the Bethlehem Steel in the Coke Works for 40 years retiring in 1981. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Tony was a member of the MORA Club, Portuguese American Club, American Legion Post # 0397 in Hellertown, a Life Member of the Hellertown Sportsmens Association and the Portuguese Continental Union Lodge 52 where he served as past president. He was also a member of Holy Infancy Church in Bethlehem and would frequently attend Queenship of Mary Catholic Church in Northampton.

Tony was a friendly story teller, gardener, baker, hunter and hard worker who will be missed by his family, friends & neighbors.



He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary, daughter, Louise Trexler and husband Larry, step daughter, Mary R. Pittell and husband Dave, grandchildren, Mark Anthony Rempp and Ann Marie Takacs, & husband Ric, step-grandchildren, Stacy Ann Hahn and Tracylnn Nuttycombe and husband Wallace and Travis Trexler; great-grandchildren, Ricky and Brooke Takacs, step-great- grandson, Wallace R. Nuttycombe, V; and a brother, Jose DeLemos. He was preceded in death by his sister, Deolinda Ferreira.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM and again on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Infancy Catholic Church 312 E. 4th St., Bethlehem, PA 18015 at 10 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Hospital for Children 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; VA Clinic 3110 Hamilton Blvd., Allentown, PA 18103; Salvation Army 521 Pembroke Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18018
