Arnold Michael Schiavone, a lifelong resident of Allentown, PA, died peacefully at Holy Family Manor in Bethlehem, PA on a sunny Sunday morning, February 10, at age 90 after a 15-year battle with Parkinson's disease. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, an avid sports fan, an eager golfer, an active outdoorsman and a multitalented home craftsman.

Arnold was born in Allentown on August 19, 1922 and graduated from Allentown High School in 1940. He defended our country's freedoms in World War II as a member of the Army's 1252nd Engineer Combat Battalion, building bridges and reconstructing roads to enable our troops to advance and engage the enemy in Germany shortly after the Battle of the Bulge during the winter and spring of 1945. He married Gloria Theresa Wasco in 1946 and worked as a machinist in the #2 Machine Shop at Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Bethlehem, from which he retired in 1985.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Schiavone, to whom he was married for 66 years; three brothers, Alex, Albert and James Schiavone; two sisters, Jenny Fox and Virginia Collins; three children, James Arnold Schiavone, Judith Grosser and Virginia Newton; three grandchildren, Kristen Lopez, Alisa Weimer and Corinne Mammana; and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Natalie Weimer.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Crescenzo and Annuziata Schiavone; his brother, Carmine Schiavone and his great-grandchild, Ethan Lopez.

A visitation will be held at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 on Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 8-9:15 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church, 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Interment will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
