Barbara Louise Henning

March 7, 1933 — December 25, 2022

Barbara Louise Henning, 89, of Bethlehem, died on Christmas day, December 25, 2022, in Meadow Glen Personal Care at Phoebe Richland. She was born March 7, 1933, in Tobyhanna, PA; one of eighteen children to the late Frederick H. and Glendora (Strunk) Pope. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Henning, Sr.

Barbara will be lovingly remembered for her love of family, faith, and music. Many of her favorite activities incorporated all three. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Above all, Barbara loved her family and took great joy in spending time with them, especially celebrating the most special time of year, Christmas.

Barbara was proud of her Christian faith. She was very active in numerous United Church of Christ congregations in the area. Barbara could often be found leading different events to raise funding for the churches.

Barbara had a passion for music. The family often gathered around the piano and sang while Barbara played. She also spent countless hours playing the piano and organ at local churches, bringing joy and inspiration to those in attendance. Barbara was former choir director of St. Thomas UCC and Church of the Manger.

Earlier in life, Barbara attended Northampton Community College and earned her degree from St. Lukes School of Nursing. She was a dedicated nurse, working tirelessly to care for those in need. And she had a passion for candy making, and she spent time running a candy store in Bethlehem called Barbara's Corner, where she delighted customers with her delicious confections.

Barbara could often be found enjoying the outdoors, gardening, taking photographs, and her dogs.

Barbara will be dearly missed by her daughter, Kaye Louise Lentz, and husband, Randy; sons, Paul Henning, Jr. and wife, Linda; Thomas W. Henning, and wife Linda; and Jeffrey A. Henning and fiance, Diane Melnyk; as well as 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and siblings, Audrey, Claude, Thomas, and David. She was predeceased by daughter, Melanie Anne Henning, grandchildren, Jeremy Henning, Nicole McLoughin, and siblings, Sylvia, Mildred, Freda, a baby brother, Arlene, Elwood, Lesa, Allen, Edwin, James, Melvin, Harriet, and Pauline.

A service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. Cliffert Herring.
