Bernadine M. Kalkun

Bernadine M. Kalkun, 90, of Harrisburg, formerly of Bethlehem passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Arden Courts Promedica Hospice, near Harrisburg, PA with her family and friends by her side. Born on January 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Farkas) and Rudolph Keretz. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph J. Kalkun who was an Air Force Veteran and Bethlehem Steel retiree from Wilkes Barre, PA. Bernie and Joe were married for 45 years until Joe passed away in January 2004.

Bernie attended St. Ursula School and Bethlehem Catholic High School. She later worked in food services at St. Luke's Hospital for 36 years. Prior to that, she worked as a waitress at the Washington Hotel in Bethlehem, where she met her Joseph. After Joe passed away in 2004, Bernie lived with her sister Elaine in Harrisburg.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Elaine M. Talian and her husband, Stephen F. Talian; a multitude of nieces and nephews and many friends. Bernie was preceded in death in December 2022 by her brother, Donald F. Keretz, and by his wife Priscilla (Lorah) Keretz, both of Bethlehem Township.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1817 First St. Bethlehem, PA 18020. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in the Church. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church or Arden Courts Promedica, 2625 Ailanthus Ln. Harrisburg, PA 17110.
