Bernard B. Payonk

Bernard B. “Bernie” Payonk, 83, of Salisbury Twp., died on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Holy Family Manor. He was born in Cementon, PA; son of the late John and Catherine (Emerick) Payonk. Bernard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene (Kloo) Payonk.

Bernie proudly served in the US Navy Seabees during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Whitehall High School, where he played basketball and earned his Associates Degree in Engineering from Penn State. He worked for Pittsburgh Plate, Ingersoll Rand and later Bethlehem Steel in the Fabricated Steel Division, retiring after over 30 years of service. Bernie was a member and former bartender at the Fearless Fire Co. He was an avid golfer who also enjoyed hunting and woodworking. Bernie was a parishioner of St. Ursula Catholic Church, Fountain Hill and a member of the Golden Hillers.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Irene; children, David and wife, Lori of Alburtis; John and wife, Ann of Schwenksville; Susan of Hamburg; and Thomas of Bethlehem; brother, John Payonk of Whitehall; sister, Carolyn Hodle of Arizona; his five grandchildren, Jason, Joleen, Adam, Sarah and Ben; and his great-granddaughter, Lennon and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick F. Payonk.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. The family will receive guests again on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Ursula Catholic Church, 1300 Broadway, Fountain Hill, PA 18015 with a Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
