Bernard John Bast

Bernard John Bast, 84, of Bethlehem, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023, at his residence. He was the husband of Mary L. (Chamberlain) Kuba and the late T. Sheila (Orlando) Bast who died April 28, 2009. Bernard was born in Plymouth, MA on April 8, 1938 to the late Leonard J., Sr. and Marie (Volz) Bast. He worked for the former Bethlehem Steel as a Chemical Engineer at The Homer Research Lab until retiring in 2000. Bernard was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Bethlehem Twp. He was a member of the Delaware River Shad Fishermens Assoc. and was a past Asst. Scout Leader of the Boy Scouts Troop 359, Bethlehem. Bernard served on the Bethlehem Township Recreation Board and was past treasurer of the Bethlehem Township Athletic Assoc.

Survivors: in addition to his wife of 12 years; children: John B. (Kathy) Bast of Easton, Victor C. Bast of Bethlehem, Frank N. (Dawn) Bast of Emmaus; Stephanie Bast (David Grillo) of Los Angeles, CA; stepson: Christian (Karen) Kuba of Sugarloaf; brothers: Leonard J., Jr. (Grace) Bast of Bethlehem, Raymond (Mary) Bast of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 1 step-granddaughter; 1 great grandson. He was predeceased by his brothers: Thomas & James Bast.

Service: Family and friends are invited to a visitation 5-8pm Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the Connell Funeral Home, Inc., 245 East Broad Street-Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 3219 Santee Road-Bethlehem, PA 18020. The inurnment will conclude services at the Holy Saviour Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.connellfuneral.com
