Bertha E. Pakulski

August 22, 1926 — December 2, 2007

Bertha E. Pakulski, of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Bethlehem, died December 2, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore. Born in Kent County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Robert & Bertha Sierkierski Demski.

She and her husband, William Pakulski, Jr. would have celebrated their 60th anniversary in January. Over the years they moved from Baltimore to Bethlehem to Valparaiso, IN to Bethlehem and finally back to Baltimore.

Bert had been employed as a Civil Service Employee, 1944 - 1965, retiring as a GS 11 from Aberdeen Proving Grounds as Comptroller and Director of Programs U.S. Army Test & Evaluation Command.

She is a former member of St. Anne s Catholic Church, Bethlehem and a member of Church of the Annunciation in Rosedale, Md. .

Bert accomplished much in her life. In her early twenties she was a contestant in numerous beauty pageants. She is a former Mrs. Baltimore and Mrs. Maryland 1950 pageant winner, and competed in the Mrs. America Pageant .

While living in Valparaiso she was deeply involved in the Delta Theta Tau Sorority, a national organization dedicated to the advancement of philanthropy and charity,

She volunteered many hours with the Ladies Aid Society at Porter Memorial Hospital and also gave generously of her time with the Ladies Aid Society at St. Luke s Hospital in Bethlehem. She served as the Co-Chair of the 1976 Bethlehem Heart Fund Campaign and was active with the Parish Activities Group at St. Anne s.

A better than average bowler and golfer. She was a former member of Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem and currently was a member of Sparrows Point Country Club where she had been very active in ladies golf activities. She served as treasurer for many years of the Women s Metropolitan Golf Association.

She was an avid reader, truly enjoyed her lady golfers and Pinochle Group, loved a good cup of coffee and most especially loved her family.

Surviving along with her husband Bill is a daughter Jan, wife of Gene Connell of Bethlehem, two grandchildren, Owen and his wife Jennifer of Bethlehem and Katie of Hickory, N.C. , and four great grandchildren, Aidan, Ian, Ella and Ava. She is also survived by a brother Fred and his wife Theresa Demski and a sister Nora Michael in Baltimore and many nieces and nephews.

Bert was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes Borkoski, Camille Lesnick, Eileen Bahur and four brothers, Milton, Elmer, Robert and Marty.

Calling hours will be 3-5PM & 7-9PM on Wednesday, December 5 at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk and 7-9PM Thursday and 9:30-10:30AM Friday at the Connell Funeral Home in Bethlehem. Services will begin at 10:30AM Friday in the Connell Funeral Home and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Perpetual Catholic Church, Bethlehem. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
