Bohdan Pacala

June 4, 1922 — July 2, 2012

Bohdan T. Pacala, 90, of Bethlehem, PA died Monday, July 2, 2012 at Sacred Heart Assisted Living in Center Valley. Born June 4, 1922 in Cementon, PA, he was the son of the late Justina (Michalak) Pacala Tymko and the late Theodosi Pacala. He was the stepson of the late Andrew Tymko. He was married to Annie (Sawarynski) Pacala with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage this past February 23rd.

A graduate of Northampton High School, Bohdan proudly served his country during WWII as a Sergeant with the Headquarters Company, 393rd Infantry Regiment of the 99thInfantry division with the Third U.S. Army in Germany and Belgium. He was wounded in Belgium for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. Bohdan then went to work for 40 years at steel fabricator Bethlehem Fence, later BFW. He was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Allentown and the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, both the national and Lehigh Valley groups.

He is survived by his wife, Annie of Center Valley; daughters, Luba Pacala wife of Willie Joe Carter of TX, Nadine wife of Jim Hartnett of NJ; sister, Olga Gritz of Lansdale, brother, Russel Pacala of Bethlehem and three grandchildren, Alexandra and Michael Carter and Evan Hartnett. Bohdan was preceded in death by his brother, Myron Pacala.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church 1031 Fullerton Ave., Allentown, PA 18102 .Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM in the church. Burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA with full military honors.
