Canice R Smith

September 18, 1926 — December 2, 2010

Canice R Smith, 84, of Bethlehem, died on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg in Bethlehem. He was born in Bethlehem and was the son of the late Charles J. and Elizabeth Wineberger Smith and was the companion of the late Ruth A. Pursell Lasso who died in July of 1994.

Smitty was a graduate of Moravian College. He worked for the Bethlehem Steel as a scheduling clerk in the Beam Yard Department retiring in 1984 with 30 plus years of service. He was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church; he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Smitty was a member of the Monocacy Field and Stream Club, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed dining out and going to the casinos. He also enjoyed going to the beach and mountains.

Canice will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Sharon Lasso Hollowell of Bethlehem, two sons Ernest Lasso of North Carolina and Gary Lasso of Mertztown, PA two grandchildren Christa Kutzler and her husband Kyle and Eric Hollowell, two great grand children, Gabrielle Kutzler and Tyler Hollowell, Niece Catherine Drexler and husband Mark of Bath, sister in law Catherine E. Smith of Bethlehem, and cousin Rita Brecker of Bethlehem and several nieces and nephews.

Canice is predeceased by his parents, two brothers Charles P. and Joseph P. Smith and his companion Ruth A. Lasso.



Visitation will be at Connell Funeral Home, Inc., 245 East Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 6-8 pm and Thursday December 9, 2010 from 9-10 am followed by funeral service at 10 am. Burial to follow service at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
