Capt. Joseph T. Adams

Capt. Joseph T. Adams slipped his mooring lines on September 2, 2014 and sailed quietly over the horizon for the last time. Capt. Adams walked up the gangplank for the first time on his 18th birthday and circumnavigated the globe over 30 times in his 49 years under the mast. He served in war zones during WWII, the Korean, and Vietnam Wars. For a time, Capt. Adams was the youngest master in the US Merchant Fleet. He held pilots licenses for the ports of New York, Jacksonville, and San Juan, and was a lifetime member of Masters, Mates, and Pilots.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maryann E. Sharkey Adams, son Michael, daughters, Maryann, Jean, Sioux, and Gail, and grandchildren, Mya Durham, Zane Adams, Jayme Adams, Noah and Julian Smith, and LauraJean Logue. He was predeceased by his parents, William and May E. ONeil Adams, brothers, William Adams, USN Pearl Harbor Survivor, James USCG, and sister, Katherine E. Adams OKeefe US Navy WAVES, all WWII veterans, and sons, James and Patrick.

A viewing will be held on Friday September 5, 2014 from 7-9pm at the Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, Pa. 18018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am on Saturday September 6, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, Pa. 18020, with a viewing from 10-11am at the church. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem.
