Carl J. Sewald

Carl "E-Pop" J. Sewald, 77, of Bethlehem, PA died on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Hospice of the VNA of St. Luke's in Bethlehem. Born December 10, 1935 in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Joseph and Stella (Kuprian) Sewald. He was married to Dorothea (Deegan) Sewald with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage this past October.

Carl worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation in the Tool Steel Sales Department for 17.5 years. He also worked at Lehigh Valley Bank as a courier and in the mailroom. Carl proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He was a 1954 graduate of Liberty High School and also attended Moravian College for two years. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Bethlehem, St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Society and the American Legion Post 576.

Carl was an avid bowler, golfer and card player. He enjoyed vacationing at Surf City with his family and most of all the time he spent with his grandchildren and going to their soccer games, little league and swim meets.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothea; son, Eric Sewald and wife, Deana (Datesman); his two grandchildren, Lauren and Alec, "E-Pop loves you very much." He will also be remembered by his niece, Donna Pflieger and nephew, Scott Pflieger; and many other nieces and nephews and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the Deegan family. Carl was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemarie Pflieger.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 at 11:00 AM. A calling period will be held from 9-10:30 AM. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem.

Memorial contributions may be made in Carl's name to the charity of one's choice.
