Carl L Albarelli

October 25, 1922 — May 14, 2010

Carl was born on October 25, 1922 to Frank and Maria Albarelli. Carl's parents immigrated to the United States from Cervinara, a small town outside of Naples, Italy. Raised in a devout Roman Catholic family, he was one of five siblings; Albert, Michael, Ellen and Amelia. During his school days he was fully involved in sports, including soccer and basketball. As a two-year soccer captain of the Bethlehem High School team, he earned many accolades and graduated in 1941. From there he went onto Bethlehem Business College and finished his formal studies in 1942. He served in the United Sates Army for four years during World War II in the European Theater of Operations and as a guard of German and Italian prisoners of war in camps in the United States.

Carl married Helen Thomas, affectionately known as Ruth, and they lived happily together for forty-five years. They had four children, Marilyn, Lois, Francis and Joan and two grandchildren, Katie and Dev. Carl was a supervisor on the Philadelphia, Bethlehem, and New England Railroad for almost forty-two years and worked as a delegate for railroad safety. Carl and Ruth loved to travel, within the United States, Canada, and Europe, but especially to Italy where they visited cultural and historic sites.

After Ruth passed away, Carl met Cora Kerner, also a widow, at a Bethlehem Steel Rehabilitation program in 2001. After their wedding ceremony, they honeymooned in Spain, Portugal and France. Carl had four step-children, Jane Mendoza and her husband Paul, Mary Kerner, Pat Kerner and Judi Riegel and her husband Keith and two step children, Amanda and Victoria Riegel. Both Carl and Cora loved spending time with their families and in previous years delighted in traveling around the United States to visit with them. They were very busy with community service, as Friends of the Library in Hellertown, volunteers at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, Meals on Wheels, and other civic organizations.

Carl was president of the Bethlehem MORA Club; State President of the YMCA of Pennsylvania for Seniors; President of the Bethlehem Lions Club; President of the Northampton County Blind Association; President of the local UNICO; President of the Bethlehem AARP; State Trainer and Legislator for AARP; Past Grand Knight for the Trinity Council Knights of Columbus; little league baseball umpire and coach and a founder of the Northeast Bethlehem Sports Association and served as a CYO football coach.
