Carl W. Eckenrode, Jr.

April 23, 1936 — September 7, 2008

Carl W. Eckenrode, Jr., 72, of Quakertown, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2008 at his residence. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Carl and Loretta Carr Eckenrode. He was the loving husband of Nancy Heft Eckenrode. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past February.

He was a 1954 Liberty High School Graduate. Carl served his country proudly in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Division, but always said, "My real job in the service was to be the clean up hitter on the Fourth Army fast-pitch softball team".

He worked for Bethlehem Steel in the Transportation Department for 35 years. For the last 10 years of his working career, he was the president of the Bethlehem Steel Subsidiary Railroads.

He enjoyed wood working, restoring old cars and playing golf. In retirement, Carl found his biggest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

Carl will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Nancy, sons, Scott and wife Terry of Quakertown; Michael and his wife Cindy of Quakertown; Thomas and his wife Lisa of Lovettsville, VA; daughter, Jill of Lahaina, Maui; brothers, Robert "Reds" and wife Bettyane of Bethlehem; and Jack and wife Martha of Quakertown; six grandchildren, Michael Carl, Matthew, Donovan, Dylan, Adam, Ava, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers.

A Service celebrating Carl's life will be held Friday, September 12, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. till the time of the service. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
