Catherine H. Long

September 30, 1922 — February 18, 2011

Catherine H. Long, 88, of Bethlehem passed away on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. Her husband, the late Robert M. Long, died in 1963. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Kenny Hession.

Catherine was a veteran of the U.S. Army. She and her husband met while serving in Yokohama, Japan during WW II where she served as an Army Nurse.

She had held positions as a Nurse for the NYC Health Department and as a clerk for the Unemployment Office in Allentown. She was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, Bethlehem.

She was a graduate of Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, class of 1943.

Catherine was the loving mother of five sons; Robert, Michael, Stephen, Joseph and Thomas; two daughters, Maureen and Kathleen. She will also be lovingly remembered by five sisters, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Along with her husband and parents she is predeceased by two sisters and a brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 in Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1861 Catasaqua Rd., Bethlehem. Friends may call at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem from 6:00 - 8:00pm Monday. Interment will follow the Mass at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
