Catherine “Tootie” J. Gerencser, 96, formerly of Bethlehem, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at LifeQuest Nursing Center, Quakertown. She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Gerencser, who died March 1, 2007. Catherine was born in Bethlehem on November 27,1927, to the late Andrew and Veronica (Doddy) Spevak. She sewed garments at various Bethlehem factories. She also worked in the cafeteria at Lehigh University. A woman of deep faith, Catherine was a member of the Incarnation of Our Lord Parish (formerly SS Cyril & Methodius). She served as the past president of the SSCM Parish Senior Group and was an active participant in the National Sokols Ladies Wreath 66 and the Sokol Bowling League.
Survivors: children: Larry (Melissa Knesz) Gerencser of Easton, Denise (Kevin) McCauley of Carlisle; sister-in-law: Edna (Zamadics) Spevak; grandchildren: Randi Gerencser, Eric (Tara) Gerencser, Laura McCauley, Katherine McCauley; great grandson: Anthony Gerencser; Jonathan Knesz and step-great grandson Trey Ehlman. Preceded in death by brothers Michael, John, Joseph, Andrew, George, and Francis; and sisters: Agnes Delgrosso, Mary Lazun, Anna Vanic, and Margaret Stangl. Aunt Tootie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services: Family and friends are invited to her viewing 9:30-11am Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the Incarnation of Our Lord Parish, 617 Pierce Street, Bethlehem, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. The services will conclude at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Condolences may be offered online at www.connellfuneral.com.
