Charles Dominick Didonato

Charles Dominick DiDonato, 90, of Bethlehem, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016. He was born March 4, 1925; son of the late Joseph and Angeline (Marinelli) DiDonato. Charles was the husband of the late Kathryn A. (Banash) DiDonato.

Charles is a graduate of Bethlehem Vocation Technical School and later enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in May of 1943. Charles participated in 6 Japanese held island invasions in the South Pacific. He received the World War II medal, as well as the American, Liberty and Asiatic Pacific medals.

Charles is a retired Officer of the Bethlehem Fire Dept. He enlisted in Jan 1, 1952 and retired in February of 1980. Charles also worked in #2 machine shop of the Bethlehem Steel Co. from 1947-1951 and served as a security officer at Muhlenberg Hospital from 1980-1999. He was a very active member of St. Annes Catholic Church, where he was a proud altar server for funeral Masses. Charles also volunteered at Muhlenberg Hospital and South Side Ministries.

Charles will be dearly missed by his six children, Kathryn Schuenemann; Debora and her husband, Gary Cordes; Charles J. DiDonato and his wife, Cindy; Joseph DiDonato and his wife, Laura; Lisa and her husband, William Berke; and Cynthia and her husband, Bret Bissey; 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and his brother, Albert DiDonato. He was preceded in death by his brother, John and sister, Ethel Poniktera.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at The Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Another visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 am at St. Annes Catholic Church, 450 E. Washington Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18017 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 am. Interment will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
