Charles E. Bednar, 86, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Cyril and Agnes (Lawrence) Bednar. He was the husband of the late Helen (Liberno) Bednar, who died in 1993.
Before retiring, Charlie worked for Reeb Millwork for 10 years, the Bethlehem Steel for 20 years, and the City of Bethlehem for 10 years. He was an avid sports fan and a good athlete, playing baseball, basketball and fast pitch softball; and loved a good Polka. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the North End Wanderers A.A., the Jefferson Democratic, and the Heights A.A. He was also a lifelong member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Robert; daughter, Nancy Horwath & companion, John Lemos; Charlies loving companion of 22 years, Mary Stein; granddaughters, Amy Horwath & husband, Benjamin Cheetham, and Julie Horwath; sister, Irene Houston & husband, Richard; and nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Kevin G. Horwath; sister, Anna Mae Landsberger; and infant brother, Robert.
Visitation will be held from 11 to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, in the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem. A 12 p.m. funeral service will follow, in the funeral home, with burial at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
