Charles G Donchez

Charles G. Donchez, 93, of Bethlehem died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 in Holy Family Manor. Born in Bethlehem he was the son of the late Karoly and Ann Csrenko Donchez. He and his wife Gloria Reardon Donchez married on May 19, 1951 and dedicated the last 59+ years to each other and their family.

Charlie retired from the Bethlehem Steel Co. in 1978 as a construction electrician after 40 years of service. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He served in the South Pacific. He was aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Ingraham DD-64 when, on May 5, 1945, it came under attack. It shot down four Japanese planes before a fifth crashed into it. There were over 50 casualties.

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Bethlehem and a member of its? Holy Name Society . When St. Joseph?s was closed he became a member of Holy Infancy. He was very active well into his 90?s. He golfed with the retired steel workers and bowled with the MORA club, of which he was a member and volunteered his time at Holy Family Manor.

Charlie was a generous, selfless man who was greatly loved by all who knew him.

He will be missed by his wife Gloria of Bethlehem, daughter Monica of Bethlehem, sons Patrick of Harleysville and Gerard and his wife Andrea of Jamison, PA. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Andrew, Briana, Matthew, Julianna and Jacob. He was predeceased by brothers Stephen and Frank and sisters Mary Yuhasz, Helen Shunk and Anna Marshaleck.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 in the Chapel at Holy Family Manor, 1200 Spring St., Bethlehem at 11:45 am. Visitation from 11:00 am -11:45 am in the Chapel. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
