Charles J. Slaninka

Charles J. Slaninka of Center Valley, PA, passed away peacefully from this life on Sunday, April 6, 2014. He was born on June 13, 1921 in Bethlehem, the son of the late Agnes and Joseph Slaninka. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Grace Mitko Slaninka.

He retired in 1983 from Bethlehem Steel. Charles was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 6, 1944. He was assigned to the 2nd rifle squad in 1st Platoon Company C51st AIB. He was discharged on February 2, 1946 with a rank of PFC. He had received numerous medals including the Purple Heart. He was a life member of the Purple Heart Chapter 190.

Survivors: He will be dearly missed by his beloved sister, Helen Zelasko; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Agnes Calvo; and brothers, Joseph, Steve and John.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 5050 St. Joseph Rd., Coopersburg, PA 18036. A viewing will be held at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Coopersburg.
