Charles M. "Dee" Montgomery

Charles M. “Dee” Montgomery, age 90, passed away on January 11, 2017. He was born in Victoria, Virginia on May 19, 1926 to Robert McRae and Ruth Gettle Montgomery.

Dee served two years in the U S Navy in WWII, on the USS Balduck, as an Electricians Mate. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1949 and began his career in the Service Department at Bethlehem Steel in Bethlehem, PA. Dee married Jean Louise Scanlan in 1951. They raised three children. He was Assistant to the V.P. of Engineering at the time of his retirement from Bethlehem Steel in 1982. He worked as Business Manager for the Lehigh County Agricultural Society (The Great Allentown Fair) before retiring again in 1991. He continued to serve on the LCAS Board of Directors for several years before becoming the Forester.

Dee was a member of the Mens Service Club of the Bethlehem YMCA. He served on the Appropriation Committee for the United Way, and was Assistant Scoutmaster for the First Presbyterian Church Boy Scout Troop.

Dees family attended The Cathedral Church of the Nativity where he served on the Vestry, as a Delegate to Convention, Junior Warden, Treasurer, and Confirmation Class leader. He also served the Diocese of Bethlehem on the Committee for the Episcopate, Commission on Ministry, Renewal and Evangelism Committee and as Lay Director for Diocesan Cursillo Community.

Dee was a member of the Saucon Valley Country Club where he enjoyed many hours playing golf and tennis.

He is survived by his wife Jean, brother Robert, children John, Charles Jr., and Ruth, and grandchildren Kaitlin, Sean, Alyssa, Ian, Allison and Michael.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for February 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of the Nativity, 321 Wyandotte St., Bethlehem, Pa.
