Charles R. Ward, 87, of Bethlehem died on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Moravian Village in Bethlehem. Charles was the son of the late Thomas A. and Charlotte S. Knipe Ward and the husband of Geraldine "Jill" M. Cole Hartenstine Ward of Bethlehem with whom he celebrated their 42 anniversary on June 18, 2008.

Charles retired in 1985 after 35 years of service as Office Manager of Banko Beverage Co. He served his country during WW II in the U.S. Navy. Charles was a 1938 graduate of Liberty High School and a graduate of Temple University. Charles was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, Bethlehem. He was involved in his community as a volunteer for Musikfest, St. Luke's Hospital and Saucon Fest. He was a member of the 540 Democratic Club, and the Fearless Fire Co. in Allentown. He was an avid bowler and played darts in the church dart league.

Charles will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jill of Bethlehem, four sons Bruce J. Ward of Bethlehem, Dennis C. Ward and his wife Rebecca of Martha's Vineyard, MA, William C. Hartenstine and wife Niki of Schnecksville, PA and Michael A. Hartenstine and wife Donna of Lake Bluff, IL, Nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, a sister Ellen M. Minnick, two brothers John and Joseph Ward and a grandson Michael W. Ward who died in 2002.

A visitation will be at Connell Funeral Home, Inc., 245 E. Broad Street, Bethlehem on Monday, July 7, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church United Church of Christ, corner of Center and Market Streets, Bethlehem on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 10:30 AM

Burial following service at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
