Charles S. Kovacs

Charles “Charlie” S. Kovacs, 85, of Bethlehem passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at St. Lukes VNA Hospice House with his family by his side. Born February 11, 1929 he was the son of the late Anna (Csaszar) and Frank Kovacs. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille (Merwarth) Kovacs and was remarried to Dorothy “Dolly” (Stastny) Kovacs with whom he celebrated 16 years of marriage.

Charles worked and retired from the former Bethlehem Steel. He also worked as a chef for Collins Restaurant and Guardian Life Insurance. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, while in the service he played baseball for the U.S. Army where he toured in Japan. Charlie was a member of the American Legion. He was a coach for several CYO baseball teams, the Babe Ruth and West Bethlehem Basbeall Leagues. Charlie was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude where he was very active. He was also an avid Yankee fan.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothy, sons, Charles Kovacs and wife Diane and Hugh Kovacs and wife Donna, daughters, Mariann Bartek and husband Dave, Patricia Gubich and husband Wayne and Michelle Keglovits and husband Joe, step sons, Roger Klotz and Brian Klotz and wife Lisa, step daughter, Sharon Balla and husband Stephen, 17 grandchildren and three great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church 730 W. Broad St., Bethlehem from 9:30 to 11 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery. Arrangements Connell Funeral Home.
