Charles W. Skibo, Sr.

February 2, 1920 — September 5, 2008

Charles W. Skibo, Sr., of Bethlehem, died Friday September 5, 2008 at Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown, after a brief illness. Born in Bethlehem in 1920, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Stegura Skibo. He is survived by his wife, the former Wilma Snyder; they would have been married 59 years on September 24.

Charles was a founding member of Notre Dame Catholic Church of Bethlehem. He was employed by the Bethlehem Steel. He joined the company in 1939 as an accounts payable clerk in the corporate accounting department. He earned an associate degree in accounting from Pennsylvania State University in 1941. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946, becoming an artillery battery commander in the European Theater. He returned to Bethlehem, received further advancements, and in 1955 was promoted to an assistant section head, accounts payable. He was made section head in 1966 and senior staff accountant in 1979. He retired in 1983.

Survivors: He will be lovingly remembered by, wife, Wilma; son, Charles Skibo and wife Michele; daughter, Maryann Clancy and husband James; brothers, Edward and Paul Skibo; sister, Helen Wiley; grandchildren, Daniel, Peter and Julia Clancy; and numerous nephews and nieces.
