Chrystyna Popowycz

Chrystyna Popowycz “Baba”, 91, of Bethlehem died July 5, 2015 at the Hospice House of the VNA of St. Lukes. Born December 17, 1923 in Ukraine she was the daughter of the late Maria (Quick) and Nicholas Lymych. She was the wife of the late George Popowycz with whom she celebrated 25 years of marriage until his passing in 1973.

Chrystyna worked for Synthetic Thread as a machine operator for 25 years. She was a member of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church in Bethlehem where she volunteered her time with the Ladies Auxiliary and sang in the choir. She was known to many as either “Baba” or “the Pierogi Lady.”

Chrystyna is survived by her son, John Popowycz and wife Shirley, daughters, Maria Popowycz and Anna wife of James Koehler, nine grandchildren, Christopher Grys and wife Elizabeth, Michael Grys, Stephanie Crosby and husband Justin, Tanya Bubori and fianc Matthew Weaver, Kevin Popowycz and wife Becky, Michael Panik and companion Kim Billitz, Michelle Panik-Shellock and husband Brian, James Koehler and wife Megan and Greg Koehler and 13 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 7-9 PM with Parastas at 7 PM. A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 in the funeral home from 8:30-9:30 AM followed by a funeral service at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church 1826 Kenmore Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18018 at 10 AM. Burial will be at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Chrystynas name to the church.
