Clyde H. Oskin Jr.

April 27, 1923 — November 16, 2016

Clyde “Junie” Oskin, 93, of Bethlehem passed away on November 16, 2016 at Kirkland Village of Bethlehem. He was the son of the late Clyde Holden Oskin, Sr. and Louise (Walker). Clyde was a member of the Class of 1941 at Liberty High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Lehigh University in 1947. He proudly served as a PFC in Company A, 68th Army Red Infantry Batallion during WWII, earning the Bronze Star. Clyde worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation until he retired in 1985. For years after retiring he was an avid volunteer at Meals on Wheels, was Head Golf Coach at Allentown College (now DeSales University) from 1987-92, and rated regional golf courses with the Golf Association of Philadelphia.

Clydes true passions were his family and golf. Clydes golf accomplishments were many. He was a fixture at Saucon Valley Country Club, holding 14 Club Championships from 1942-74. He also at one time held two course records, including his Old Course mark of 65, which stood for 43 years until it was broken at the 2000 U.S. Senior Open. Clyde qualified for four U.S. Amateur tournaments and reached the fifth round in 1958. He was inducted into the Lehigh University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Lehigh Valley Golf Hall of Fame in 2006.

Survivors: Clyde was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald, William and Mary Lou (Beeken). Clyde is survived by his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Mary (Rivers), daughter, Pamela Ryan (husband, Tony) of Brookeville, MD and son, Dr. Timothy Clyde Oskin (wife, Virginia) of Hellertown, PA, along with his 5 grandchildren, Kyle, Erin and Christopher Ryan and Sydney and Maclaine Oskin. Clyde will be remembered by his family and friends for his engaging friendship, devotion to family and encyclopediac memory of his life.

Services: A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, in the Sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church, 2344 Center Street, Bethlehem, PA 18017, followed by a reception at First Presbyterian Church.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “Kirkland Village for Charitable Care” fund in honor of Clyde Oskin. Mail to Business Office at One Kirkland Village Circle, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
