D. Jean Nitowski

December 8, 1927 — January 5, 2009

D. Jean Gilson Nitowski, 81, of Whitehall and formerly of Bethlehem, died on Monday, January 5, 2009 at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

She was born in Allentown, the daughter of the late Everitt and Thelma Rusling Kiefer.

Jean was the loving wife of the late Emil W. Nitowski.

A graduate of Abington Memorial Hospital, Jean worked as a registered nurse in the emergency room at the former Allentown General Hospital for eight years. Later, she worked for the former Western Electric and AT&T as an Industrial Nurse for 22 years before retiring in 1987. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ in Allentown.

She will be lovingly remembered by her family; son, J. Greg Gilson his wife, Debra and their children Gregory and Brooke all of Whitehall with whom Jean resided; step-daughters, Diane P. Tarhan of California, MD and Christine A. Kuplen of Bethlehem; Jean's four step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elaine Kleckner.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem, where a ceremony to celebrate Jean's life will be held, Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 11 am. Friends are invited to call from 10-11 am in the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
