Daniel A. DelGrosso, 93, of Bethlehem, died on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. He was born in Bethlehem, the son of the late Domenick and Filomena (Ricci) DelGrosso. Daniel is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (Horvath) DelGrosso with whom he celebrated their 70th anniversary in July.
Daniel was a 1943 graduate of Liberty High School. Upon graduation he proudly served in the US Navy during WWII as part of the Underwater Demolition Team 13; Daniel participated in 7 land invasions; including Iwo Jima and Okinawa as a Navy Frogman, now known as Navy SEALs. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his fellow Frogmen and was the president of his team for the Navy SEAL reunions.
Daniel was the 3rd generation owner and operator of DelGrosso Concrete Contractors for 45 years until his retirement in 1988 when he passed the business to his son, Domenick. “The Bear” taught himself woodworking and model train building. He is a fraternal member of the Boys Club of Bethlehem; and holds lifetime membership of the Roosevelt Democratic Club, the Independent Citizens Club and Heights A.A. Daniel was awarded the Citizen of the Year Award by UNICO in 2012. He was a parishioner of St. Annes Catholic Church. Daniel was an avid golfer and bowler and found peace working in his garden and exercising. He especially loved watching his grandchildren play sports. And he loved meeting 3 times a week at the Palace Restaurant with his long time buddies, Don, Andy and Paul and many more that made up the group.
Daniel will be dearly missed by his wife, Betty; children, Filomena “Mena” Csaszar (Louis G.); Domenick DelGrosso; and Donna Leon all of Bethlehem; and his sisters-in-law, Irene Meyers and Victoria DelGrosso. He was affectionately known as Pop to his grandchildren, Louis, DJ, Brandon and Chuck and nine great grandchildren and is survived by his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael.
