Daniel C. Scanlan

Daniel C. Scanlan, 84, of Bethlehem, died on Tuesday, April 04, 2017. He was born January 20, 1933 in St. Clair, PA; son of the late Robert D. and Helen (Mitchell) Scanlan. Daniel was preceded in death by his wife, Justine M. “Jessie” (Uhrin) Scanlan.

Daniel attended New Castle Twp. schools and was a St. Clair High School graduate. Upon graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Daniel was stationed in Germany where he was a member of the Ordnance Battalion and tasked with rebuilding tank engines. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans and American Legion Post 379. Daniel retired from Conrail after 35 years of service as a Freight Conductor on the Reading Railroad and he was a member of the United Transportation Union. He was a parishioner of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church. Daniel also enjoyed exercising at the Bethlehem YMCA, especially swimming.

He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Patricia “Patty” Murphy of Raleigh, NC; son, Mark D. Scanlan of Morrisville, NC; a sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Wellner of Saucon Valley, PA; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Daniel was predeceased by his son, Daniel Andrew Scanlan and his brother, Robert Scanlan.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 8:00-9:15 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church, 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Interment with military honors will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Lukes Hospice House c/o Development Office, 801 Ostrum St. Bethlehem, Pa 18015.
