Daniel Hasenecz

February 3, 1920 — June 20, 2009

Daniel Hasenecz, 89 of Bethlehem died at VNA Hospice of St. Luke's Lower Saucon Township on Saturday June 20, 2009.

He and his wife Helen Holva Hasenecz, who died in 2004, had celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Born in Bethlehem he is the son of the late George and Mary Munda Hasenecz.

Mr. Hasenecz worked for the Bethlehem Steel Company for 41 years retiring in 1981 from the Maintenance Dept. of the Saucon Shipping Yards. He had been a member of the USW AFL/CIO Local 2599.

Daniel and his wife owned and operated Dan's Tavern on Carbon St. in the former Northampton Heights of South Bethlehem 1951 to 1967.

He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps as a waist gunner on a B-26 Marauder Bomber, flying 42 missions before being shot down in Germany and becoming a Prisoner of War for 14 months during WW II.

He was a member of Incarnation of Our Lord's Parish in Bethlehem.

He will be dearly missed by all his family: sons; Daniel J. husband of Mary of Bethlehem Township, and James P. husband of Cheryl of Hellertown, Daughters; Diane Plunkett of Doylestown, Pa. and Lorraine wife of Michael Shelton of North Catasauqua, Pa.

He was one of 13 children and is survived by his brothers Alex and Charles of Bethlehem, Pa. and Andrew of Riegelsville, Pa. and his sisters: Olga Doncevic of Hellertown, Pa. , Pauline Radchuk of Bethlehem Township, Pa. and Kathryn Belsak of Bethlehem, Pa. He is also survived by his six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Lynn Martucci, son-in-law Richard Plunkett, sisters; Mary, Ann, Helen and Agnes and Brothers; George and Edward.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the Connell Funeral Home 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Incarnation of Our Lord Parish 617 Pierce Street Bethlehem, Pa.

Viewing will be held on Thursday 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Holy Savior Cemetery.
