Daniel Joseph Young, 86, of Bethlehem, died on April 14, 2011 at the Hospice House of St. Luke's.
He was born March 18, 1925 in Tamaqua, the son of the late Daniel Charles Young and Marguerite Boyle Young.
Daniel proudly served his country with the 2140th Army Air Force Base Unit during WWII with 50 combat missions in Italy, Germany and South Europe.
Daniel is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Rose Boyle Young.
He retired as an Electrical Salesman after working for Graybar Electric, Allen Electric, Queen City Electric and Illuminations, Inc.
Daniel was a founding member and served as a lector, on the building committee and carnival chairman for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Bethlehem.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Rose; daughters; Marilyn Hollinger and her companion Edward Longenbach; Rosanne Young; Peggy Edris and her husband Galen; Betsy Hawke; Judith Murphy and her husband Brian and Diane Elliott and her husband Chris. He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Daniel and Michael Hollinger, Rebecca and Justin Misero, Jennifer and Jessica Edris, Dana, Mary and John Lucente, Gina Kostic, Timothy and Tyler Young-Guzman, Matthew, Kyle and Shea Elliott; and great grandchildren, Keith and Ryland Hollinger, Grace Edris, Brady Mansfield, Ethan Reaser, Noah and Zachary Kostic, Michael Cobb, Curren and Kaylan Young-Guzman and his beloved dog Prince.
Daniel was preceded in death by his, daughter, Cathy Lucente and his brothers, James and Joseph Young.
He dedicated his time to many organizations. He was involved with Catholic Charities, United Way, Catholic Pageants, Catholic Professional Mens Assoc., and he served as East Hills Civic Assoc. President. Daniel also was the Election Official for District 14-5, founding Cub Master for Cub Pack 62 and was a statistician for Lehigh University.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 17, 2011 from 7-9 PM at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Another calling hour will be held on Monday, April 18, 2011 from 9-9:45 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18020, with a Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow. Military Honors will be held following Mass.
Interment will be held on Good Friday, April 22, 2011. Those wishing to attend may meet at the entrance of Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem at 9:45 AM.
