Delia Rivera Diaz

Delia Rivera Diaz, 71, of Bethlehem has gone to be with her beloved Savior Jesus Christ. She was born October 5, 1950 in Corozal, Puerto Rico. She was the daughter of Francisco and Valentina Rivera of Bethlehem who are waiting in heaven with open arms for her.

She will be lovingly remembered as a beloved Daughter, Sister, Cousin, TiTi, Mother and Grandmother.

She was a trailblazer for women and the Latino community. She never met a challenge she couldnt conquer. She was a social worker helping the less fortunate, a trailblazing camera woman, editor and producer at PBS. Delia served her community through the office of former U.S. Representative Paul McHale after her extremely successful work mobilizing the Latino Vote for his election. While there she served as the Immigration and Latino Affairs Specialist and later as a Casework Supervisor. She also served State Senator Lisa Boscola as an advocate for the Latino community. Delia was awarded the first Lehigh Valley Latin Alliance Leadership Award, The Northampton Community College Dream Weaver Award, and was the first Latina Woman to serve on the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission. She was a member of the U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute. Delia also served on the Pennsylvania Alliance for Building Communities, The National Coalition Institute, Lehigh Valley, The South Bethlehem Development Coalition, and The Bethlehem Community Development Corporation. She was a driving force at the Hogar Crea Womens Facility.

Delia graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School and Northampton Area Community College. She also attended Lehigh University. Delia was a lifelong member of Holy Infancy Church in Bethlehem.

Delia will be dearly missed by her husband, Carlos M. Diaz and her sons, Carlos F. Diaz and Javier Diaz all from Bethlehem. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Paige Diaz, Nicholas Diaz, and Lucas Diaz. Delia is also survived by brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews who are all beautifully diverse and too numerous to count; they were her most cherished relationships. Delia was always available for support, words of encouragement and hugs.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home. The family will receive guests on Friday, May 7, 2021 from 9-10 a.m. at Holy Infancy Catholic Church, Bethlehem immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Bethlehem.

In her memory the family asks that you perform random acts of kindness and that you be the change in the world that you want to see.
