Dolores Mary Mervan, 92, of Bethlehem, PA and Westfield, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. She was born on September 26, 1931 in Bethlehem, daughter of the late Stephen and Virginia (Knipe) Kerso. She was the wife of the late Stephen C. Mervan for 57 years until his death in 2011.
Born on the South Side of Bethlehem, she attended St. John Capistrano, the Hungarian Catholic school and church. She graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School in 1949. Dolores worked as an escort, also known as an "elevator girl", for Bethlehem Steel from 1949 to 1954. She was selected for her elegance and poise and was responsible for welcoming guests to Bethlehem Steel. She married Stephen at Ss. Cyril and Methodius in 1954 and was a devoted homemaker and mother to her two children.
Dolores was passionate about fashion, enjoyed cooking, and always appreciated classic movies. She kept a meticulous garden for many years and had a great love for animals, especially birds. She was known for her Hungarian walnut torte and was a fan of all things sweet, but most of all she was proud of her family.
Survivors: She will be remembered with the greatest love and affection by her daughter Carolyn, wife of Quaid Kapadia of Westfield, NJ and grandchildren Alexandra, Alistair, and Andrew; and her son, Stephen Mervan, husband of Lorraine of Pittsburgh, PA, grandson Matthew, his wife Emily and two great grandchildren, Maxwell and William; and brother-in-law Robert Labdik husband of Karen of Macungie, PA.
Service: Family and friends are invited to her viewing from 8:30-9:30 am on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Connell Funeral Home located at 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Incarnation of Our Lord Catholic Church (formerly Ss. Cyril and Methodius), 617 Pierce Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015. The services will conclude at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem. Condolences may be offered online at www.connellfuneral.com.
