Donald M. Parkin

October 5, 1941 — April 19, 2014

Donald M. Parkin, 72, of Bethlehem Township died April 19, 2014 at St. Lukes Hospital in Fountain Hill. Born October 5, 1941 in Manhattan, NY he was the son of the late Helen M.(Illsche) and Donald J. Parkin. He was married to Ellen E. (Bierman) Parkin with whom he would have celebrated 41 years of marriage this coming May 5th. Donald worked as a Senior Lab Technician for 34 years in Vitamin C production for Roche and DSM in Belvidere, NJ. Prior to that he worked at U.S. Radium in Hackettstown, NJ and proudly served his country in the US Army Medical Corps in Germany from 1964-1967. Donald was a very active family man. He always put his family first especially the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was an avid “Rock Hound”, creating many different types of jewelry pieces for his family. Donald was involved with his daughters CYO days at St. Jane Frances de Chantal in Wilson Borough. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, archery and trap shooting. He was a member of Citizens Hose Company of South Side Easton, Safety First in West Easton, Wilson Democratic Association, Wilson Borough Republican Club and the Tatamy Fire House.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ellen, daughters, Christine Dermota and husband Troy of Bellefonte, PA and Elizabeth Deemer and husband Wayne of Wilson Borough, brothers, Paul E. Parkin and wife Suzanne of Tennessee, Timothy Parkin and wife Mary of Florida, Charles F. Parkin of Tennessee and David Parkin of Tannersville, PA, sisters, Madeleine Parkin of North Carolina, Susan Holthausen and husband John “Jack” of Kunkletown, PA and Joanne Parkin and husband Randy Rush of Alaska. He will also especially be remembered by his grandchildren, Abigail and Cole Dermota and Felicity, Makenna and Cadence Deemer and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael and Christopher Parkin.

Services

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, Pa 18018 from 6-8 PM and again on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 9-10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jane Frances de Chantal 4049 Hartley Ave, Easton, PA 18045 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Donalds name to the National Vietnam Veterans Foundation 191 NE 45th St., Suite 223, St. Lauderdale, FL 33308 or to St. Jan Frances de Chantal School or the Salvation Army 521 Pembroke Road, Bethlehem, PA 18018 or to the charity of ones choice.
