Donald R. Byington

Donald R. Byington, Sr., 88, of Bethlehem, PA died Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Hospice House of the VNA of St. Luke's in Bethlehem. Born June 26, 1924 in Bethlehem he was the son of the late Rollin and Elizabeth J. (Knipe) Byington. He was married to Dorothy M. Brobst for 65 years until her death in March of 2011.

Donald worked for Lehigh University in the Bookstore in the clothing department retiring after 27 years. Prior to working for Lehigh he worked for the Linden Street Esso Service Center and the Ference Cheese Shop. Donald was a 1943 Liberty High School Graduate. After graduating he served his country proudly during World War II in the US Army with the Aviation Engineers.

Donald was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served as President of the Council, Men's Brotherhood and other committees. He was also a life member of the Jefferson Democratic Association and Lehigh Southside Boosters. Donald volunteered for Lehigh Athletics and for First Night in Bethlehem.

Donald will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Graceann and her husband Gary Ritter and son Donald R. Byington, Jr. all of Bethlehem as well as seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his son, Richard Byington, sister, Grace Hunter and three brothers, George Raymond, Richard Rollin and Rollin Roy.

Services have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, Bethlehem and are private at the convenience of the family.
