Dr. Charles Fraust

Dr. Charles (Chuck) Fraust, 73, of Bethlehem, passed away May 15, 2016, surrounded by his family. Born in Bronx, NY and raised in Queens, he was the son of the late Milton and Mildred (Weintraub) Fraust. He married wife Barbara (Kutzer) Fraust in 1981 and was married for 35 years. Chuck is survived by his wife Barbara; brother, Bart and his wife Vicki of Queens, NY; son, Kelly, of Owensboro, KY, and daughter Molly F., wife of Adam Wylie, Somerville, MA. Chuck was the proud grandfather of grandson Max Wylie, and baby boy Wylie due this fall, as well as niece, Mimi. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Howard, of New York, NY.

Chucks impressive career in Environmental Engineering spanned 5 decades, during which time he received multiple awards and honors. Chuck received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the Cooper Union and his M.S. and Ph.D in Environmental Health Engineering from Northwestern University. He served as the Director of Environmental Safety & Health for the Semi Conductor Industry Association until he retired. Previously, he was a Senior Staff Engineer for Lucent Technologies, Microelectronics Group, serving in the capacity of Corporate Consultant and lead Microelectronics Environmental Health Engineer. Chuck began his career in the semiconductor industry in 1968, with Western Electric, then with AT&T, and Lucent Technologies until 1999. In 1994, Chuck was named the Lehigh Valley Professional Engineer of the Year and, subsequently, the Pennsylvania Professional Engineer of the Year in 1995.Chuck was the past president of the Pennsylvania Chapter of American Lung Association and a volunteer with the Minsi Trail Boy Scouts Council, for which he won the Silver Beaver Award. In 2008 he was acknowledged for contributions leading to the award of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) before retiring. He had been a member and former Chair of the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission representing Northampton County for over 20 years and also served on the Environment Committee and had served as a member of the Delaware River Basin Commission.

Chuck loved all sports, and was a lifelong NY Mets and NY Jets fan. - He enjoyed traveling the world for work and for pleasure with his family. He was a lover of music, wine, and food, particularly when enjoyed together with those he loved. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, May 19th at Connell Funeral Home in Bethlehem, Pa with visiting hours from 5pm-6:30pm and a service to follow.
