Dr. Daniel James Griffin

Dr. Daniel James Griffin, 87, of Bethlehem and Avalon, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Fathers Day, June 17, 2018. He was the devoted husband of Margaret Marie (Toth) with whom he enjoyed a marriage of 66 years; loving father to Thomas (Pat), Colleen Desh (Roger), Daneen Pieper (Bill) and Meg Franzen (Marc); proud grandfather to 7 grandsons (preceded in death by infant grandson), 5 granddaughters and 3 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Griffin began his Optometry practice in Bethlehem in 1954 where he practiced for 47 years with 2 office locations serving the eye care needs of countless families in the Lehigh Valley. After his retirement, he moved with his loving wife to the place he loved most, Avalon, NJ, where countless family memories were made over 45 years. Dr. Griffin will be remembered by his family as a Dad who lived by example, for his sense of humor, strong moral values and his motto, “its 5 oclock somewhere.” His greatest joys were his wife and loving family.

The family will receive friends June 25, 2018 from 9:00-10:30 AM at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM at St. Annes Catholic Church, 450 E. Washington Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18017 followed by burial at Holy Saviour Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
